26 Week Update

Just got back from our 26 week appointment. I gained 4 more pounds bringing me to a 17 pound total. The doctor said that I should continue to gain 1 pound a week until the baby is born. The only other thing the doctor checked was the baby's heartbeat. It sounded great and the doctor (a different one from our last appointment) said that the heartbeat sounded fast. I said "like a baby girl" and she said... "if you believe that theory!" She said her two boys both had heartbeats of 160 beats per minute (which is considered fast), so she really doesn't believe in the accuracy of that theory. I guess we'll just have to wait until April for the truth to be told!!!

"One of the popular theories on baby gender prediction is based on the baby's heart rate. The theory states that if your baby's heart rate was 140 beats per minute and above, you would be having a girl. If the heart rate was under 140 beats per minute, then you would be having a boy. While this would be a quick and easy baby gender prediction method, there is actually no evidence that this theory is accurate. There is a recent study, "Sex, Heart Rate, and Age" from Terry J. DuBose, M.S., RDMS; Director Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, which indicates there is no correlation between foetal heart rate and the gender of the baby."
